Although bats are beneficial to the ecosystem they just don't belong in
your home.  BATS are the primary carrier of RABIES in Michigan. Rabies is
a viral disease that effects the central nervous system (brain & spinal
cord). The disease is spread from an infected mammal to human typically
through a bite. Bat's droppings (guano) left in the attic or walls builds up
over time promoting bacteria growth breeding air borne spores
(HISTOPLASMOSIS)  or histoplasma-capsulatum. Affecting human lungs
with symptoms similar to influenza and in some cases death. Bats like all
mammals can carry parasites like mites, lice fleas and ticks .
INSPECTION
The first step is a thorough inspection of your home or building during the
inspection (FWCS) will determine where the bats are finding their way in
and the best method to keep them out. Bats can enter any number of
openings on a home. We check the roof line looking for any cracks or
crevices, open vents, loose or missing trim, open roof returns, ridge vents,
gable vents, chimney screens, missing mortar, flashing, soffit, facia etc.
During the inspection (FWCS)  will determine the exclusion process that
best suits your home or building. Cost for bat exclusion ranges higher
than any other type of animal removal. This is a specialty field, requiring
specialty skills and experience is important when dealing with bats. The
cost of bat exclusion varies depending on the amount of work, size of
building, condition, accessibility, location, distance and difficulty of work
.An estimate of the final cost of exclusion will be provided during
inspection.  You will also be informed as to the condition of your attic
space and if attic clean up is necessary due to the bat colonisation (urine
& droppings).
Bat exclusion work starts at $500 and up.

BAT EXCLUSION.
After identifying all primary entries as well as any secondary openings
(possible trouble spots at a later date) the secondary openings are sealed
and  our one way exclusion devices are installed over the primary
openings. Bat exclusion is normally completed within 5 days, with most
bats leaving your home the first night. Our humane bat exclusion process
allows the bats to freely leave the home at dusk yet not permitting them to
re-enter your structure upon their return. After 5 days, the exclusion device
is removed and the final openings are sealed. All bat exclusion work
carries a 1-3 year warranty.
Serving south central Michigan since 1987 FOSTERS WILDLIFE CONTROL
has provided effective, humane non chemical solutions for the removal of
bats from your home or business . Of the 9 species of bats that call
Michigan their home only the small brown bats (myotis)and large brown
bats or (northern myotis) occupy your attic. All Michigan bats feed on
insects such as beetles, mosquitoes, moths, flies etc. They eat hundreds of
bugs a night. Nursing colonies begin forming in April or May and disperse
from late July to October mating takes place in the fall before hibernation.
Bats hibernate in mines, caves and attics. They wake an average of once
every two weeks during hibernation  and may fly about outdoors on warm
winter nights, but without feeding they store about 1/16 ounce (2g) of fat as
winter sustenance, using nearly three-quarters of it during winter
awakenings and emergence. The remainder must sustain them through the
winter.
